“Evangelical” comes from the word for good news, or Gospel. In the Lutheran Reformation, it expressed the recovery of the Bible’s central promise: sinners are justified by God’s grace, for Christ’s sake, through faith.
Grace alone

Faith receives what Christ has won. Our confidence rests in his promise.
